Grant and Joanne
Tokyo, Japan on a Wednesday
The rain was expected to come on Thursday and all of the cherry blossoms would be knocked off of the limbs. The few blooms that were stubborn enough to hang on wouldn't survive the windy weather that was predicted for Friday. It was settled. The couple and I would shoot on Wednesday in Nogawa Park, one of Tokyo's hidden gems.
Jo and Grant are hard working people. By day, the New Zealand natives teach at a prestigious international school in Japan. By night they are the devoted parents of three beautiful kids. With so much of their day at the service of others, I was honored to snag a bit of their time.
We started our session along the edge of Nogawa where there were a few cherry trees still in full bloom. Jo and Grant were both in a good mood and were happy to have a few moments away from their everyday routine.
Moving towards the center of the park, I noticed a monster of a tree that had already lost all of its little flowers. The ground underneath was covered with a blanket of pink petals. The couple didn't hesitate to lay on the ground as I climbed the gnarled branches of the old sakura tree to shoot them from above.
Our last shots were in Nogawa's interior. We found an evergreen grove filled with old growth giants. The great trees splintered the sun throwing light all around the grove. It was the perfect setting for the closing snaps of our portrait session.
Thank you Grant and Jo for spending some of your little free time with me. It was a pleasure being your photographer. If you would like your own portrait set, don't hesitate to reach out by using my contact form.
